Ultimately, Truck Tolls will become Car Tolls & those Toll gantries will be nothing more than a taxpayer ATM machine for the RI DOT.
Bridges must be fixed and maintained, but not from a new spigot of revenue. Reprioritizing the bloated state budget — so we don’t have to bribe businesses to locate or expand in RI, so we don’t increase the already high taxpayer burden, so we don’t add to the state’s already back-breaking pile of debt — should be your candidate’s goal. Do you think tolls will move us from 50th place in the CNBC business friendly ranking? THEY KNOW TOLLS ARE A LOSING ISSUE!
If Tolls were the right way to go, then why is it noticeably missing from Speaker (and Cranston representative) Mattiello’s campaign literature? It was one of the most sweeping pieces of legislation in recent memory, yet he forgot to include it as one of his accomplishments!
And why was Democratic Chair and Warwick Representative McNamara incensed when we sent a mailer indicating that he voted for tolls?

Notice also on Page 22, most states with higher Administrative costs per mile are huge liberal states – MA, NY, MD, CA, NJ. The only exception is Florida.
