FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sept 30, 2015
Coventry, RI – Rhode Islanders Against Mandated HPV Vaccinations and Council for Vaccine Safety will present Making Waves in the Ocean State taking place at Coventry Public High School - 40 Reservoir Rd, Coventry, RI 02816 on Friday, October 2, 2015, featuring multiple presentations scheduled to include our state legislatures, joint leaders of the Rhode Islanders Against Mandated HPV Vaccinations, a former Merck employee, physicians, researchers, and legal organizations highlighting public policy, transparency, informed consent, medical, and legal topics. Our vision is to give Rhode Islanders the information needed helping them make a choice they are comfortable with - no matter what that choice may be.
The #NOHPVmandateRI grassroots movement has gained momentum and national visibility over the past several months and we feel blessed and honored to be recognized. Our movement is advocating for informed consent, and believes all citizens should be given full knowledge of possible risks & benefits relating to medical procedures and vaccines including the HPV vaccine. We are actively working with our state representatives to reverse the HPV mandate and believe the decision should be between parents, the child, and their doctor.
We are pleased to announce the following speakers
- Brandy Vaughan former Merck employee, Vaccine Safety Advocate, founder of Council For Vaccine Safety co-sponsor of this event
- Dr Diane Harper Professor and Chair of the dept. of Family and Geriatric Medicine at the University of Louisville, principal investigator (PI) for clinical vaccine trials for Merck (Gardasil)

Stop the RI Dept of Health from tracking your data without your knowledge or consent. This petition is to oppose the RI state bills of H5541 & S676. These bills allow for a tracking database to be implemented for all RI residents of all ages. This database will be accessed by doctors, school nurses, and any other third party that the RIDOH gives permission to. We are working to protect your rights, to protect your personal data, and most importantly your medical privacy.
Please read and SIGN TODAY
Attention Senate Health Committee and House HEW Committee of the RI statehouse.
I do not consent to my medical data of any kind, being stored in a database tracking system without my expressed written consent. What choices I make with my doctor, whether that be vaccinations, preventative therapy, or anything else, is private and personal information and only I make the choice of who has access to that data.
Bills H5541 & S676 have language that allows for many different fields of data to be tracked, but also directly connect the law to CDC nationally endorsed data elements. This allows for any change of data collection to happen without anyone's notification. By connecting the law to that element, permits the DOH to add more when the CDC approves more. I do not appreciate nor do I approve of unknowing amounts of data collection into a central database. As we all know nothing is 100% secure, at some point any form of a database has the potential to have a data breach. I find it appalling that the legislator would consider a bill that gives such an over reach of power to the Dept of Health without my explicit consent.
The Dept of Health has stated that a big reason for developing such a database is to assist the elderly population with keeping track of which vaccines they have received and when. The pharmacies and doctors are sometimes creating a circumstance that a person would get vaccinated twice for the same vaccine, by not properly informing each other of what the patient record has. This outlines a serious problem with the current system. The current communication system between pharmacists and doctors needs to be worked out and evaluated. Such a situation should not fall on all RI residents to be auto enrolled into a database and need to take extra steps to opt themselves out of it.
These bills would expand the current KidsNet database to all persons beyond age 18. KidsNet does not give the parent the ability to access or view their child's data. They must request time at their doctor's office and sit with an associate to view data that has been input and stored about their child. How is this acceptable means of accessing our own information? The "opt out" status of the current database is not an opt out at all. It solely blocks the file from third party sign in, and makes it so only DOH can view the data. The RIDOH does not allow a parent to completely remove their child's data at all.
The current bill states that "a person may opt out by contacting the Dept of Health". Without language that states the file will be removed and deleted, this simply implies it will be worked the same way the current database does, and that is not acceptable practice of patient records.
I strongly urge you to OPPOSE these bills and support the rights and privacy of the residents of Rhode Island.
Rhode Islanders Against Mandated HPV vaccinations announces bills submitted to kick off the 2019 legislative session. In 2014, the HPV vaccine doses were added to the required schedule for school as a mandate. Currently, the RI DOH is one of only a few in the country that hold the power to mandate vaccinations without real public input, or legislation voted on.
The time is now to take a stand, to take the bureaucrat power away from the RI DOH, and to support the bills that respect the parent’s right to a private choice. We are asking you for your help. Governor Raimondo & Rhode Island State Legislators:
Rhode Island parents should retain the right to make their own decisions specifically regarding the HPV vaccine and HPV vaccines should not be mandatory vaccinations to enter a public or private school in RI.
RI citizens should be fully informed of vaccines being considered for mandate by attaching to a child's education. Citizens should have the ability to voice concerns or supports about such a decision, and this should be well in advance to any decision being decided upon.
I write to you in support of reversing the HPV vaccine mandate in RI. HPV can not be transmitted by casual contact in a classroom. This is not a public health threat, and should be a private decision between parent, child, and doctor only. I urge you to respect and uphold the parental rights of the citizens of RI. Decisions like this mandate should not be done without public knowledge. A vaccine is a medical procedure and should be treated as such, with proper informed consent. Vaccines do not go through the same safety standards of any other pharmaceutical drug, and that should be well stated to all patients and citizens. Informed consent is negated when a vaccine is mandated.
We feel the RI Dept of Health should not have the sole authority to make the mandates and that they should be recommended by the Dept of Health to the General Assembly and be voted upon by the people the citizens have elected into office.
I respectfully request you to support reversing the mandate for the HPV vaccine in RI school systems.

Rhode Islanders Against Mandated HPV Vaccinations stands to reverse the HPV vaccine mandate in RI. To advocate for informed consent and to place the future process of vaccines considered for mandates in a form of complete public awareness and the ability to have a voice.
The group stands to remove the mandate in RI, to place the decision privately between parent, child and doctor. Advocating for informed consent that all citizens be given the full portion of pros and cons for any medical procedure, up to and including the HPV vaccine. Finally to remove the power from RI Dept of Health and place it back in legislative due process; where the citizens have a voice and can speak with their representatives about supports or concerns for future vaccine decisions.
